5280 Names the Twilight Train a Best Train Ride in Colorado

The Royal Gorge Route Railroad is featured in 5280 Magazine’s October 2026 guide, “All Aboard! Your Guide to the Best Train Rides in Colorado,” by Daliah Singer. The guide lists the Twilight Train among its top Colorado train day trips as the pick for “enjoying a romantic nighttime journey.”

The Twilight Train is our evening ride through the Royal Gorge. Guests watch the sunset light up the canyon walls, which rise 1,250 feet above the river. As night falls, they can enjoy a cocktail or mocktail and watch a laser-light show set to music from the open-air car.

The Twilight Train runs on select weekend dates, including most Fridays and Saturdays in October.

The Views Were Spectacular

Our trip was on a Sunday morning in early September… Once the train got rolling we went to the open air car & spent the entirety of our tour there. That allowed for the best views for the complete ride. The views were spectacular.
